As a gender and sexuality professor, it concerns me immensely that you put “cis” in quotation marks, as if it is an inapplicable or rude term.

I go to such lengths to explain the trans experience because the empathy of cis people is necessary for trans liberation, however it is essential that cis people not believe that their empathy qualifies them to speak “for” (over) us.
